Edoardo Ulivelli (July 4th, 1994) is an Italian writer and director born and raised in Florence.
After gaining acting experience in theatre and winning international awards with FIAP for his photography work, in 2017 he earned his BA degree at University of Bologna in Arts, Music and Entertainment Studies.
In 2018 he attended NYFA in Florence before moving to the UK where he studied at the London Film School under the mentorship of directors and screenwriters such as Rafael Kapelinski and Richard Kwietniowski. Over there in 2022 he graduated with an MA degree in Filmmaking specialising in directing, screenwriting and producing.
His graduation short film “Lo Sguardo (The Look)” premiered at Aesthetica Short Film Festival 2022 in England, a BAFTA-qualifying event. The film continued its promotional campaign at Oscar-qualifying festivals like In The Palace 2023. “Lo Sguardo” received nominations for Best Foreign Short at Burbank International Film Festival and Best Student Short at Crystal Palace Film Festival as well as a Honourable Mention at Brighton Rocks Film Festival.
In 2023, the script for his new short film “Rando” was selected for the Filmer Forge Pitch. In 2024, pre-production begins with the independent production company Eclettica. Ulivelli is also the producer, writer, and director of this new project.
Artistic vision
Ulivelli is a sensitive author who explores profound themes through a hypnotic visual narration, where subtext and silences speak more eloquently than words themselves. His quest for emotional authenticity allows the audience to freely interpret reality and fantasy, while subtle irony enhances empathy with his protagonists.
Drawing from his life and insecurities, the author creates characters like Clive, a reserved Englishman grappling with repressed sexual impulses, and Lorenzo, a child who escapes into fantasy to avoid confronting his grandmother’s imminent death. Universal themes such as desire and acceptance of death are portrayed through characters whose inability to communicate serves as the primary source of conflict.
Among the directors he admires are Kubrick, Ostlund, and Guadagnino. Like them, he places great importance on technical aspects, considering images, music, and sounds as integral characters within his films. For him, cinema should evoke deep emotions, awakening the repressed sensitivity of viewers and prompting them to reflect on a world devoid of certainties and consolations.

Dopo aver maturato esperienze di recitazione in teatro e aver vinto premi internazionali con la FIAP per il suo lavoro fotografico, nel 2017 ha conseguito la laurea triennale presso l’Università di Bologna in Discipline delle Arti, della Musica e dello Spettacolo.
Nel 2018 ha frequentato la NYFA a Firenze per poi trasferirsi nel Regno Unito dove ha studiato alla London Film School sotto la guida di registi e sceneggiatori come Rafael Kapelinski e Richard Kwietniowski. A Londra nel 2022 ha conseguito il Master in Filmmaking specializzandosi in regia, sceneggiatura e produzione.
Il suo cortometraggio di diploma “Lo Sguardo (The Look)”, è stato presentato in anteprima mondiale all’Aesthetica Short Film Festival 2022 in Inghilterra, evento di qualificazione per i premi BAFTA. Il film ha proseguito la sua campagna promozionale in festival del circuito Oscars come In The Palace 2023. “Lo Sguardo” ha ricevuto nomination come Miglior Cortometraggio Straniero al Burbank International Film Festival e Miglior Corto Studentesco al Crystal Palace Film Festival, oltre a una Menzione d’Onore al Brighton Rocks Film Festival.
Nel 2023, la sceneggiatura del suo nuovo cortometraggio “Rando” è stata selezionata al Filmer Forge Pitch. Nel 2024 inizia la pre-produzione con la casa di produzione indipendente Eclettica. Ulivelli è ancora produttore, sceneggiatore e regista di questo nuovo progetto.
Visione artistica
Ulivelli è un autore sensibile che esplora temi profondi attraverso una narrazione visiva ipnotica, dove il sottotesto e i silenzi sono più eloquenti delle parole stesse. La sua ricerca di autenticità emotiva permette al pubblico di interpretare liberamente la realtà e la fantasia, mentre una sottile ironia facilita l’empatia con i suoi protagonisti.
L’autore attinge dalla sua vita e dalle sue insicurezze nel creare figure come quella di Clive, un inglese riservato alle prese con pulsioni sessuali represse, e Lorenzo, un bambino che si rifugia nel suo mondo di fantasia per evitare di affrontare l’imminente morte della nonna. Temi universali come desiderio e accettazione della morte trovano espressione attraverso personaggi la cui incapacità di comunicare è la principale fonte di conflitto.
Tra i registi che ammira maggiormente troviamo Kubrick, Ostlund e Guadagnino. Come loro, l’autore attribuisce grande importanza agli aspetti tecnici, considerando immagini, musica e suoni come veri e propri personaggi all’interno dei suoi film. Per lui, il cinema dovrebbe suscitare emozioni profonde, risvegliando la sensibilità repressa degli spettatori e invitandoli a riflettere su un mondo privo di certezze e consolazioni.
